TCOY = Take Care of You!

2014 July bridge JOURNEY bwMy life’s personal journey and career experiences as a former professional athlete and coach (30+ years) have taught me a lot about the human body, commitment, choices and discipline.  LIVING WELL

Finding your purpose in life and living it out daily is a great source of fulfillment.  For me, I know mine, Coach and Life Enthusiast.  Decades of experience and being true to my belief’s, values and lifestyle have given me great personal satisfaction.  Being able to empower others gives me great joy as I witness lives being transformed through intentional living.  My book Putting It All Together provides my stories on living well.

Coaches, teachers, and mentors provide insight and guidance through knowledge and expertise.  With decades of experience of living the TCOY (take care of you) lifestyle, my clients are empowered and endorse my coaching due to the outcome based results.  Inspiring Well-Being

My TCOY philosophy is to focus on total well-being:  Mind, Heart, and Body.  Simple disciplines or errors in judgment over time will reveal themselves in life.   Where you spend you time, energy, and money reveals your priorities.  As a coach, we work together and I challenge you to take inventory and make the changes as needed.  The bond between a coach and client is one of respect and commitment.

Are you taking care of everyone but you? A valuable lesson people need to be reminded of is:  “take care of you”; thus “TCOY”.  We can be of little help to ourselves or others if our personal health fails.

Someday is another word for procrastination.  In regards to your well-being, the sooner you begin to take care of your body, the better off you will be.  When you create a mindset for wellness, your lifestyle changes and your Quality of Life improves. Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.

  • If you don’t take care of your body, where will you live?
  • Are you overwhelmed by demands on your time, choices to make and simply do nothing. WARNING:  choosing to do nothing is a choice too. Avoidance is not a solution and it can cost you your life!

Focus on what you want in your life and take action to receive it. Change is hard.  Seek wisdom and support from one who has achieved what you desire. I’m not saying it will be easy but it will be worth it!  Neither wellness nor sickness occur over night, they are a result of choices over time.

ACTION REQUIRED – Your health is my business!  Together we can create a better YOU from this day forward.

Some excuses that can cost you your life:

*I just can’t change.
*I feel pretty good right now.
*I don’t have the time or energy.
*I am not sick, so I’m healthy.  Right?
*I can’t afford it, my budgets too tight.
*I have more important things to think about and do.
*I get confused and overwhelmed about where to begin.

I welcome the opportunity to provide guidance for sustainable wellness and more joy in life.

Life isn’t always fair but there are many great lessons and wisdom to be learned in every situation.  Change your thinking, change your life.  Experience life and grow in the direction your heart desires to grown.

Excerpts from My Secrets to Resilience – Article –Sallie Krawcheck

I believe that what I’m doing matters.

I recognize how fortunate I am.

I feel a responsibility to the people who’ve helped me.

I listen to the critics, I course-correct, but I don’t dwell.

I’ve loved my jobs.

Self Reliancy

Many people are greatly disappointed in life because they’ve bought into the distorted IMAGES, MOVIES and ADVERTISEMENTS of life, present it as “perfect” or at the very least, “simple and lacking personal responsibility”.  Life is messy and your attitude and reactions make an impact on your well-being and the well-being of others.

Rather than wish things were different, take steps to make it different and change the way you react or view them. Psychologist Wayne Dyer quote reflects a powerful message:  ‘Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world.’

Aim to become emotionally self-reliant.  Also, slow down and take time to breathe, enjoy clearing your mind and emotions by doing nothing and letting go of negative thoughts.  TCOY Challenge – Do nothing for 2-minutes.

The blog post by Lou Babauta “Becoming Self-Reliant” provides great insight for living a more joyful life.

Free yourself of perfection and aim for personal best.  Be empathetic.  Be adaptive. Be Grateful.  These simple steps will bring more JOY into your life, even during challenging times.

TCOY (take care of you) is a philosophy and way of life.  Learn it.  Love it. Live it.  Coach Lucy

Procrastination – meant to post this earlier…

Hopefully my witty title made you chuckle and reflect on what’s going on with procrastination in our lives.

The simple definition of procrastination is: the action of delaying or postponing something.  In our world, we are faced with hundreds of choices every day.  Is it no wonder we feel exhausted.  Taking Care of You is a daily effort consisting of choices.  Sleep, diet, exercise and hydration top the list but there are many components to wellness.

*Short video ad that actually provides some good insight. Note – I’m not endorsing the company, merely the information regarding “taking a break”.

When we are in survival mode, optimal amounts of cortisol — commonly known as the stress hormone — can be life saving. But abnormally high or prolonged spikes in cortisol — like what happens when we are constantly stewing over a problem — can lead to serious health issues such as weight gain, digestive troubles and high blood pressure.  Sounding familiar?

Stress hormones are one mechanism that we believe leads to weathering of the brain. Like a rock on the shoreline, after years and years it will eventually break down and disappear.  Procrastination can in fact cost you your health.  (Huffington Post Article)

Learning the art of time management is a great life skill.  Procrastination may slip in on occasion; however, if you find it’s happening often, make some changes.  Otherwise this wake up indicator could negatively impact your health.  It’s important to realize, not making a choice is a decision too.

What are you procrastinating on?  Exercise? Health issues? Work issues?  Financial issues?  Relationship issues?

IF NOT NOW…when?

The Bottom Line

While not all companies have the space, time or monetary resources, to institute an all-inclusive wellness program, there are plenty of ways to get a wellness program started, even in a small company. In the end, wellness programs are shown to actually save companies money, boost morale and raise productivity. Every company, both large and small can stand to have revenue saved, morale boosted and productivity raised. In the end, it is a win-win situation.

If you do nothing, it’s a matter of “when” not “if” a crisis situation will arise.  Healthcare issues did not develop overnight, nor will they go away overnight.  My TCOY Wellness Warrior Training develops the mindset and lifestyle of a champion.

Battles and challenges are inevitable in life; how you deal with them is what makes all the difference.  Stress isn’t bad.  Change isn’t bad.  Both are opportunities for growth. If nothing changes, nothing changes.  Allow me to train the warrior within you.

The greatest gift you can give yourself and others is to Take Care of You!  If you don’t take care of your body, where will you live?

The Present (a very special gift)

When we fail to value the present moment, we fail to value life. If you take care of the moments, the hours and days will take care of themselves.

Last month, we took to the streets of KC for my 5th Annual FREE HUG DAY.  We captured some great pictures for the 2014 video.    I hope you enjoy it and will share with others!  ~ Cyber hugs ~ Coach Lucy

THE GIFT by Leo Babauta (Zen Habits)

Three people are given a magical gift by a luminous, kindhearted fairy.

The gift is that for just one hour, they get to experience magic and wonders. This limited time is filled with visual delights, food of the utmost deliciousness, amazing people with incredible talents, and love.

The first person is a great man, and while he’s grateful for the gift, he has lots to do and so regrettably has to spend a lot of it replying to emails and texts, and checking for updates in social media. He does take some pictures of the delicious food and shares it on social media, though he doesn’t pay attention to the taste.

The second person is a bit of procrastinator (OK, let’s be honest: a big procrastinator), and while she really wants to use this gift wisely, she keeps putting it off. She spends much of the hour watching videos the first guy posts online of the magical world, but she doesn’t go out and experience it herself.

The third person is blown away by this gift. What an incredible opportunity! She realizes she needs to make the most of it, but isn’t sure how.

So she starts by paying attention. She notices every little detail. She listens to the amazing people she meets, and tries to really see them for who they are. She tastes the food and pays close attention to every sensation as she eats, savoring the food slowly.

She then practices gratitude for every moment, every person, everything she’s given. She’s filled with happiness by every little thing in this hour.

Finally, she changes people’s lives. She uses what’s left of this dwindling hour to learn magic skills, to heal people who are struggling (including the first guy), to make things to delight the other amazing people in this magical world.

She becomes the gift for others.

The hour is over, and the first two people realize they’ve wasted the gift, and will never get it again. They’re filled with regret. The third person has no regrets, because she paid attention, was grateful, and used the magic to change lives. She used the gift to its fullest potential.

Which of those three people are you?

Best Advice for Graduates

If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”

-U.S. Navy SEAL William H. McRaven to the graduating class of the University of Texas.

“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.

By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making yourbed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.

If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.

And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made—and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.

  • HOW YOU DO ANYTHING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING!
  • If you take care of the minutes, the hours and days will take care of themselves.
