Affirmations For A Joyful Life

Every day we will have hundreds of choices to make.  We can’t always be happy, but we can choose to be joyful.  Finding inner joy is a peace that no one or no external source can take from you.  Make time to TCOY (take care of you) on this journey called life.

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.  Your life is calling…seize the day.

Better Than Good, by Zig Ziglar

1. I am doing better than good because I clearly understand that failure is an event, not a person; that yesterday ended last night, and today is my brand new day.

2. I am doing better than good because I have made friends with my past, am focused on the present, and optimistic about my future.

3. I am doing better than good because I know that success (a win) doesn’t make me, and failure (a loss) doesn’t break me.

4. I am doing better than good because I am filled with faith, hope and love; and live without anger, greed, guilt, envy or thoughts of revenge.

5. I am doing better than good because I am mature enough to delay gratification and shift my focus from my rights to my responsibilities.

6. I am doing better than good because I know that failure to stand for what is morally right is the prelude to being the victim of what is criminally wrong.

7. I am doing better than good because I have made friends of my adversaries, and have gained the love and respect of those who know me best.

8. I am doing better than good because I understand that others can give me pleasure, but genuine happiness comes when I do things for others.

9. I am doing better than good because I am pleasant to the grouch, courteous to the rude, and generous to the needy.

10. I am doing better than good because I love the unlovable, give hope to the hopeless, friendship to the friendless, and encouragement to the discouraged.

11. I am doing better than good because I can look back in forgiveness, forward in hope, down in compassion, and up with gratitude.

2 Ways To Derail Snacking

Image

FAQ (frequently asked questions) I get asked a Wellness Coach often are about snacking and fatigue.  Ironically, my broad view answer is often shrugged off even though it is priceless and cost nothing.  It does require mindfulness and most likely changing one’s thought process which developed into a habit and now part of their lifestyle.  Change isn’t the big problem, the mindset is.

The two things I highly recommend that can immediately impact your health (mental and physical): Drink more water and replace eating with activity.  Embrace these two things and your mind and body WILL respond positively.  Easy to do…easy not to do.  Daily choices matter.

Dehydration impacts you physically and mentally. Common symptoms are fatigue and brain fog. Often the band-aid of caffeine or food are applied.  The short-term fix might seem to work, but in reality, these are short lived and have negative consequences in the long run.

Secondly, get up and move. Your body will benefit mentally, physically and even spiritually as this derails stress. Perhaps you could go for a quick walk when you’re angry about something. Rather than hitting the vending machine for a candy bar or the chips, give H2O and movement a try.

Why it matters

Comforting ourselves with food is very common – who hasn’t eaten something sweet, salty, or fatty during (or after) an emotional situation? For many of us – especially those who were soothed with food when they were younger – the habit can become so ingrained that we reach for snacks before thinking about what else we could do to calm down.

Be prepared. When you are equipped and ready to deal with the snacking urge and fatigue, by having a positive plan in place, you can take action and reap the benefits of TCOY (taking care of you).  *Remember my coaching techniques:  Positioning, Preparation, Action and Follow-thru.

Fun

Turn up the music and dance to a song; it’s mentally, physically and spiritually uplifting! Great way to start your day and take breaks throughout it.

5 Simple steps to JOY

Joy is a state of mind and an orientation of the heart; a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Although you can’t always be happy, you can be joyful and Dr. Seuss states it well: Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

Rather than complaining, whining and criticizing we can choose to rise above and bring light and joy to a sometimes dark and unfortunate situation or set of circumstances. Apply these fundamental guidelines for a joyful life.

1. Be Kind to Yourself and Others

No one is perfect.  We’ve all made errors, whether it be in something we said or did or didn’t do.  Remember that next time you find yourself frustrated at a co-worker, driver or even a family member.  A powerful video on the power in positive actions: 3-minute Thai Good Stories.

2. Gratitude and Appreciation

Appreciate what is, appreciate yourself, appreciate your life, appreciate your friends and family, appreciate all the good and not so good, appreciate all your challenges, and know that everything is exactly the way it should be. The more you will do just that, the more you express your gratitude and appreciation, the happier you will feel, and the quality of your life will improve tremendously.

The song, HAPPY by Pharrell Williams has a website which plays 24 hours of people dancing to the music.  My absolute favorite segment is the one featuring DOWN SYNDROME children and adults.  Learn to dance in the rain, for without rain we wouldn’t have rainbows or flowers.

3. Lighten Up & Let Go

Are you a worry-wart?  Worrying is negative goal setting and robs you of energy.  Nothing positive comes from worrying so if you find yourself obsessing over something in this negative way, stop listening to yourself and start talking to yourself…in a positive manner with affirmation to empower and be uplifting.

Forgiveness – holding on to anger, resentment, hatred and fear are toxic to your well-being.  Jason Gray’s lyrics in his song “Fear is Easy, Love is Hard” provides insight into the power of letting go and letting love rule.

4. Serve Others

You may think you don’t have the time or energy to reach out and help others, but the truth is, when you do, you will become full of joy and energy.  Practice doing RAK – Random Acts of Kindness (from holding a door open to given a compliment, smile or hug to someone).  Homeless Lottery Winner is a video which demonstrates the power of serving and caring for others.

5. Laugh often

Laughter provides an immediate vacation.  I saw a post on Facebook this week that cracked me up:  “When you see someone wearing camouflage make sure to walk into so they know it’s working.”   Life will give you plenty of things to chuckle at, if you choose to change your attitude and embrace it.  Dogs and children give us a steady supply.  Who made this mess?

Special indeed are these beautiful people.  In my opinion, they TEACH us how to live with joy.

Go ahead…get up out of your chair and dance with them.  Learn to dance in the rain…life is good! Live. Love. Laughter.

Love this prayer by Thomas Merton, for those times when feeling fettered …

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that
I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am
actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You
does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that, if I do this, You will lead me by the right road,
though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust You always though I may seem to be lost
and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for You are ever with me,
and You will never leave me to face my perils alone.

A Child’s Perspective

A Child’s view of a thunderstorm!

When you read this, you will never think of thunderstorms the same way again.  This will make you smile!

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to school.

As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with lightning.

The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school.  She also feared the electrical storm might harm her child.

Full of concern, the mother got into her car and quickly drove along the route to her child’s school. As she did, she saw her little girl walking along.

At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up, and smile.  More lightning followed quickly and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile.

When the mother pulled up beside the child, she lowered the window and called, “What are you doing?”

The child answered, “I am trying to look pretty because God keeps taking my picture.”

May God bless you today and every day as you face the storms that come your way.

My TCOY 4th Annual “FREE HUG” DAY

Image

In a world that says it’s ALL ABOUT COMMUNICATION…I feel we’ve become disconnected and distance ourselves from the very things we need more of:  HUGS!

What do they say:  If you don’t like something, change it!

So I decided to do just that!  I have a few friends join me each year and we take to the streets (The KC Plaza) and give out hundreds and hundreds of FREE HUGS.

ENJOY THIS YEARS VIDEO … a picture says a thousand words and the faces of those being hugged is priceless!

*PLEASE copy the link and share with others via Social Media and Emails.  I’m sure they’ll appreciate you taking the time to think of them.  BTW – You can do this in YOUR HOME TOWN too.  The POSITIVE ENERGY from doing this is incredible.  Contact me if you’d like to know more.  There are many more video’s on YouTube too.

We are a struggling with something, some more than others.  Therefore, I want to send out a CYBER HUG and remind you:  GOD LOVES YOU and this too will pass.

The first year I did this I thought it was even outside my comfort zone, but you know what…after one gentleman comment to me after hugging him that this “changed his day and outlook in such a positive way”, I was all in for making this an ANNUAL EVENT.

TCOY Philosophy is all about taking care of yourself:  Head, Heart and Body.  This event captivates all three.  A hug speaks when you can’t and opens up communication.  :)

TCOY (take care of you) my friend!

Feeling sad, lonely…you don’t need medications, you need some DOG TIME!

I’m a believer in exercise and being active with others; however, there are times when all I want is to hang out with my dog.

A dog is LOVE!

They loves us unconditionally and are always happy to see you return (even if you just left the room and returned, priceless how they acknowledge our presence).

I’m so grateful for my 4-legged blessing who makes my life better.

So many great movies and TV shows based around dogs, from Lassie to My Dog Skip and Homeward Bound.  What’s some of your favorites?

Dog is God spelled backwards…a  mirroring of what LOVE truly is.  TCOY!  Coach Lucy
