“People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.” Thomas Merton.
There are lots of ladders. Our society puts an enormous amount of pressure for success under PERFORMANCE and rewards it financially and through recognition. I’d like to suggest looking beyond the money driven success ladder. Many people sacrifice there health and relationships racing up that ladder.
With 2014 coming to a close, consider it a time for reflection.
What does success mean to you?
Seriously, slow down for a few minute to truly reflect on what success means to you.
Where you spend your time and money is an indicator of your priorities. Are you happy with the path you’re on and is your ladder of success where you want it to be?
Below is a poem that set on my father’s desk and now sits on mine after his passing. The words speak to my heart about the meaning of success to me.
Net worth does not determine self-worth. If you are financially blessed, give back generously. If you financial resources are limited, know your time and loving attitude can provide a source of joy and happiness that is priceless.
Wishing everyone a successful and blessed 2015!

He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has enjoyed the trust of pure women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who has never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory a benediction.
