This month my topic is ‘PERCEPTION’. Webster dictionary defines this as taking hold of, to feel, to comprehend, to grasp mentally, to take note, observe, awareness, and impression or understanding.
Our life experiences and encounters contribute to developing our sense of perception. Unfortunately, we all experience negative situations. Holding on to the negativity from a past experience, rather than the lesson learned, will hinder and impact future choices, thoughts and perceptions.
Let’s assume you had a really bad experience with a car sales person. Your perception would be altered because of this. The lesson might be to learn to ask better questions, to be more aware and check out reputations BEFOREHAND, thus the “buyer beware” phrase.
In any industry, there will be “the good, the bad and the ugly” (ah, remember the Clint Eastwood movie). It is not necessarily age that gives you wisdom, it’s your ability to learn from your experiences, ask questions and create a realistic and helpful perception. In this age of lightning speed technology and information, too much data can paralyze one from making a decision.
By building a network of trusted relationships, your perception is more accurate. Continue to educate yourself and learn from your experiences. Utilize others if dealing in an area you are not knowledgeable. For these people will be valuable resources to you.
The mis-perception on Healthcare is that it provides HEALTH to us. FIXING our health problems. Wrong! Only the body’s immune system can cure itself. The truth is, we have amazing trauma resources but over 90% of disease if PREVENTABLE. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
If you think WELLNESS is expensive, think of the all the cost of sickness (emotional, physical and the financial)…that’s PERCEPTION!
We are blessed for all the advances in medicine and technology; countless lives have been saved because of them. However, I firmly believe our PERCEPTION needs to change regarding health. We need to take personal responsibility, continue to learn and the biggest step: to take action.
Wellness is a journey just as much as disease; yet, it is a journey TOWARD health. Look at the legendary Jack LaLanne, what a role model and mentor. He is the orginial Godfather of Fitness. Check out his website: http://www.jacklalanne.com and take a moment to view the video clip on the opening page. His words spoken decades ago speak VOLUMES as he talks about AMERICA…just watch it for yourself!
